NACDD Continues Supporting Tribal National DPP Lifestyle Change Programs

NACDD collaborates with CDC to provide technical assistance (TA) and support to Tribal-serving organizations delivering the National DPP lifestyle change program (LCP) and other type 2 diabetes prevention programs in Tribal communities. This work continues to expand as NACDD and CDC partner with a Native-led firm, Maven Collective Consulting (MCC) to implement activities in three key areas that will scale the National DPP lifestyle change program in Indian Country:

  • Convening Tribal Area Health Boards (AHBs) and partner organizations to develop umbrella hub arrangements (UHA) that provide administrative support, training, resources, and connections to reimbursement for the National DPP lifestyle change program.
  • Creating infrastructure to build and support a workforce of Master Trainers (MT) and Lifestyle Coaches (LC) in Indian Country through assessing training needs, offering relevant MT and LC trainings, and connecting MTs and LCs serving Tribal communities to advanced training opportunities.
  • Offering technical assistance and support through peer learning and sharing opportunities on topics of need identified by Tribal National DPP lifestyle change program staff.

In the spring and summer of 2025, NACDD, CDC, and MCC plan to:

  • Offer “Coach Connection” virtual peer sharing calls for Tribal-serving diabetes prevention program staff on topics such as starting a National DPP lifestyle change program, using traditional foods, and incorporating family approaches in programs.
  • Determine training gaps and needs in Indian Country and offer a Lifestyle Coach training in partnership with Emory University’s Diabetes Training and Technical Assistance Center (DTTAC).
  • Hold a Community of Practice for several AHBs interested in pursuing UHAs.
  • Convene AHBs and other Tribal-serving organizations to discuss ways to scale and sustain Tribal diabetes prevention programs in Indian Country.
